Event Description

Ordnance Survey has invested in developing a Smart Cities practice, aligning its research, development and commercial activities.  We have committed heavily to the development of both technical capability and business opportunity to address the increasingly connected and integrated systems of the places in which we live, work and visit.  We’re proud to be sponsoring the Future Cities Pilot as part of the OGC Interoperability Programme and we would like to share progress to date with our fellow OGC members.  We’ll also share details on: the OGC-led, H2020-funded, ESPRESSO project; our consultancy work for BSI; our involvement in a large consortium delivering a prestige IoT demonstrator in Manchester, and our experiences across a number of other research domains including IoT privacy and Connected Autonomous vehicles.  As part of this roundtable, we’d welcome the support of other OGC members in sharing their current projects and experiences so that we can build consensus and identify a common set of requirements and a ‘coalition of the willing’ – a committed group who can help shape OGC’s role and future programmes in this area.

Invitation to OGC Members 03/03/2016

To fellow OGC members,

Ordnance Survey are hosting a roundtable on Wednesday morning of the TC to discuss progress and integration in the area of Smart Cities. We have invested in developing a Smart Cities practice inside our business to align our research, development and commercial activities.  As part of this we have committed heavily to the development of both technical capability and business opportunity to address the increasingly connected and integrated systems of the places in which we live, work and visit.  We’re proud to be sponsoring the Future Cities Pilot as part of the OGC Interoperability Programme. Our purpose in arranging the roundtable meeting is not motivated by developing a further standard per se but to share experience in this developing field and to examine the interaction between existing and developing component standards, within and external to the OGC. For example, will BIM, 3D GIS, IoT, Sensor, Intelligent Mobility and other standards effectively and efficiently interoperate to deliver smart city functionality?

We would like to share progress to date in the Future Cities Pilot with our fellow OGC members.  We’ll also share details on the OGC-led, H2020-funded, ESPRESSO project; our consultancy work for the British Standards Institute; our involvement in a large consortium delivering a prestige IoT demonstrator in the city of Manchester, and our experiences across a number of other research domains including IoT privacy and Connected and Autonomous Vehicles.  As part of this roundtable, we’d welcome the support of other OGC members in sharing their current projects and experiences so that we can build consensus and identify a common set of requirements and a ‘coalition of the willing’ – a committed group who can help shape OGC’s role and future programmes in this area.

We look forward to sharing insights with you next week …
